TRAINING
Westlock Independence Network maintains an Internal Education Committee that monitors all required training for support staff. They also monitor and track any training that is deemed necessary in specific support situations. Any training outside of required training needs approval of the Executive Director. Once approved the Team Leader of the program requesting training will assist in seeking needed training options and help in coordination and follow through of training.14.1 REQUIRED TRAINING:
WIN has specific training requirements for all Staff. This training is also offered to all Volunteers within WIN. A training schedule that identifies upcoming training being offered is posted in the WIN office (coffee room on the bulletin board) and documented in Newsletter. All staff needs to ensure that they have up to date training in all required areas.| Training: | Time lines: |

Internal Education Committee provides verbal notification to all staff that needs upcoming training. It is the responsibility of Staff and Team Leader to organize coverage for their training dates.
Required and other training taken is tracked for all staff and retained within their personnel file.
14.2 ST.JOHNS STANDARD FIRST AID AND CPR:
This training /recertification training is offered twice each year. All staff needs to ensure that they maintain current First Aid. CPR.One week prior to First Aid training all Staff enrolled in training, will receive and be required to read training booklet prior to training date. Copy of training booklet is to be kept on work-site wherever possible, for referral as needed.
14.3 FOUNDATIONS TRAINING:
Foundations Training is required training for all permanent staff, once they have completed the qualifying period (unless they have a diploma in Disabilities Services). Staff is required to begin Foundations within their first year of employment with WIN. When possible Foundations training is offered to casual staff. Foundations Procedures provides detailed information on the processes to follow.14.4 MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION:
Med Admin is required for all staff. First priority in training opportunities is given to Staff within programs that administer medications to Individuals in service. This one day training requires 80% to pass. (Refer to Section 5 Medication Administration for policy and procedures around administration of medication).14.5 POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORTS:
This is a one day training that takes staff through agency restrictive policies and procedures. Main areas covered are positive approaches; anticipated and unanticipated situations; Psycho tropic medication; and behaviour review committee roles and responsibilities.Resources from ACDS Restrictive Procedures Training manual are also utilized in training. (There is a required test at the end of the training session. Staff must acquire 80% to pass, or they must then retake the training).
14.6 ABUSE REPORTING PROTOCOL:
The curriculum and tutors for Abuse Reporting Protocol are developed through PDD. This one day training provides information on types of abuse, prevention and detection of abuse, along with action to take when abuse is suspected. Any staff who suspects abuse is required to take action, and will be held accountable for not doing so.14.7 FOIP/DOCUMENTATION:
This half day training provides information on Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, along with the documentation processes within WIN. A major focus of this training is on confidentiality and professionalism.14.8 NATURAL SUPPORTS:
WIN believes that it is important for Individuals to have many people in their lives. Especially people that are not paid to be there. Family, friends, co-workers, and other community members need to be involved in Individual's lives to the fullest extent possible. In fostering this, WIN has created a training package that follows a process in promoting natural relationships.All staff is required to read “Building Natural Relationships” package. This is part of initial orientation. Within each support team, strategies are developed that will foster increasing the number of natural relationships within each Individuals life. This process will be familiar to and promoted by all who support each Individual.

14.10 BASIC/INTERMEDIATE MANDT:
This crisis prevention and interaction training is based on putting people first. All people have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.The basic level training focuses on interactions with people and ways to de-escalate through what we say, what we show and what we do.
The Intermediate level training builds on to the basic, with a gradually progressive system of alternatives that involves the least restrictive physical interaction.
